Malang, August 31, 2023-Agrotechnology lecturers at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) showed their commitment to providing community service by holding training on processing shallot products into fried shallot products in Kaumrejo Village, Malang Regency. This training was attended by 4 lecturers, 25 participants from various walks of life, and attended by the head of the local farmer group. To increase the competitiveness of local products, this training is considered a positive step in supporting the economy and independence of onion farmers in the area.
The training participants were enthusiastic about this activity because they saw great potential in processing shallots into fried onion products with economic value. During the training, participants gain in-depth knowledge of proper processing techniques, from raw material selection to hygienic packaging processes. They are also taught about marketing strategies so that fried shallot products can be known by the wider community and competitive in the market.
One of the training participants, Siti Aminah, said, "I am very grateful to be able to participate in this training. As an onion farmer, I often experience obstacles in marketing our products. However, after attending this training, we learned how to process shallots into value-added products, such as fried shallots. I hope our business can grow and be profitable for our farmer group."
Prof. Dyah Roeswitawati, one of the lecturers from UMM Agrotechnology who was involved in this training, shared his views, "Community service is an important part of the university's duties. Through activities like this, we strive to make a real impact on society. By improving the skills and knowledge of farmers in processing shallots, we hope to improve their welfare and strengthen the agricultural sector in this area."
The training on processing shallots into fried shallot products in Kaumrejo Village, Malang Regency is expected to be an example for other regions in strengthening the local and economic potential of the community. Through collaboration between universities and the community, positive steps like this are expected to continue to be taken to create mutually beneficial synergies. With continuous efforts, it is hoped that onion farmers can be more competitive and face challenges in this era of globalization.
